5 March 1953: Joseph Stalin dies

An inspirational leader for the communist world at the time, Joseph Stalin’s death did not dull Hồ Chí Minh’s ambitions. Far from it, Hồ Chí Minh solidified his ideals for political reform in Vietnam, bolstered by the newly-formed Lao Động Party. Of note, Hồ Chí Minh would increase the impetus behind his controversial agrarian reform and systematic purge of landowning classes in North Vietnam.
