The Société D’Encouragement à l’Art et à l’Industrie (literally translated as the Society for the Encouragement of Art and Industry (SEAI)) was founded in Paris in 1889 by Gustave Larroumet , director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and Gustave Sandoz, the famous Parisian jeweler and founder of the French Exhibition Committee. Its function was the development of decorative and industrial art through the collaboration of the State and private initiatives. The Société Annamite D’Encouragement à l’Art et à l’Industrie (literally translated as the Annamese Society for the Encouragement of Art and Industry (SADEAI)) was the Vietnamese (hence Annamite or Annamese) branch.
